Zero Waste Home Practices and Skills

Workshop Description:
I will be showing you how to make some of my top favorite and most commonly used recipes: apple cider vinegar and oat milk, and then laundry detergent and dish soap. I am able to make all of this in the space of my kitchen, with some basic kitchen tools and appliances. The more you make these the quicker and easier it will become! I will also share with you some tricks and tips I’ve learned over the years so that you will be set for making these products even with a busy lifestyle.

The goal, of course, is to have less waste in your house when making these, as well as to limit your use and purchases of plastic products. Cutting down landfill items is important: in 2018 the EPA stated that in the U.S. There were 146.2 million tons of trash were put into landfills. Some organic items can take months-years to decompose. Plastic can take 1,000 years to decompose—and even if they are placed in the recycling bin, only 9% actually gets recycled into other products. The earth is our home and we should invest in it! Do what you can and simply be aware; we can continue to encourage each other and unite to help make this earth we live on safer and cleaner!

Speaker Bio:

Hello, my name is Natalie Warrick! I live in Dayton, OH with my husband and 2 cats. I am originally from McKinney, TX, right outside of Dallas. As I grew up I loved playing soccer, and I ended up playing it later at Cincinnati Christian University. I love coffee and currently work as a barista at Ghostlight Coffee. I also enjoy cooking, reading, gardening, and trying to live waste-free. Most recently I am the creator and admin of a local Facebook group, Waste-Free Dayton, which encourages the Dayton community to live environmentally friendly and gives space for members to share ideas and products they use.
