Historical Cemetery Presentation

  • Agraria 131 E Dayton Yellow Springs Rd Yellow Springs United States (map)

Within Miami Township, Greene County, Ohio, there lies a cemetery, referred to on various maps as Un-named Cemetery or Graveyard.  This cemetery comprises approximately 0.5 acres of land, appears to have no current burials, and has fallen into desuetude.  The cemetery is bound on the west, south, southeast, and east by a tract of land owned by the Arthur Morgan Institute for Community Solutions (AMICS).  AMICS has proposed the construction of a bicycle and hiking path from its facilities, passing through the cemetery, and onward into the Village of Yellow Springs.  AMICS intends to petition the Ohio History Connection to incorporate the path into the Buckeye Trail, Ohio's longest scenic hiking trail for its citizens, communities and partners providing outdoor recreation, opportunities to volunteer, education, access to the varied resources of Ohio, and local economic benefits.

Joseph Weldinger, graduate student in the Public History program at Wright State University, has recently completed his research on Agraria and the historical graveyard. Please join us at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 for a presentation on the history of this abandoned cemetery, the history of those individuals who created and utilized it, and the current state of the proposed path through it.
