Jim Merkel Potluck

Come to the Community Solutions/Yellow Springs Resilience Network potluck on Saturday, September 12, 2015 to welcome Jim Merkel. Jim will be in town to discuss his upcoming film The One-Hundred Year Plan.

The One Hundred Year Plan will gingerly explore two of humanity’s sacred cows “be fruitful and multiply” and “he or she who dies with the most toys wins.” Together they lead the stampede to wreck the planet and underlie most environmental and social woes.  The viewers are treated to an insider’s view of societies that exhibit sustainable practices-- that is, have small families, small ecological footprints and healthy, educated people. Jim Merkel travels to Kerala, India; Cuba;  and Eastern Europe; possibly swinging by China and Vietnam, to glean insights into defusing the population bomb, ending poverty and taking the heat off our planet.

Jim Merkel is the author of Radical Simplicity: Small Footprints on a Finite Earth. He directs the Global Living Project, which consults with municipalities and campuses as well as offering workshops and lectures on sustainability. Jim started the Global Living Project (GLP), which is an outreach, educational, research-oriented non-profit environmental organization working as a project of AWISH (A World Institute for a Sustainable Humanity).

Here’s an excerpt from Jim’s awesome presentation at Community Solutions’ 2014 conference.

The potluck begins at 6 pm at the Rockford Chapel, please bring a dish to share and your own dishes/cutlery. IF YOU CAN, please bring a dish with some locally grown or produced food.
